25 Foreign Government Scholarships for International Students

In their effort to promote international development cooperation and to internationalise their education systems, the governments of developed nations (USA, UK, Australia, Japan and Majority of European countries) provide the government scholarships to the high achieving international students of the world.

Fulbright Foreign Student Program
The Fulbright Program are full scholarships to international undergraduate students from 155 countries of the world who are keen to pursue a Masters/ PhD in the US. The scholarships may be obtained for a non degree post graduate program. It covers the expenses for tuition, textbook, air ticket, stipend and health insurance. A total of 1,800 scholarships are awarded every year.

Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program
The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program is a program for a year of non-degree study and training in the United States for experienced professionals from designated countries around the world. The fellowships will provide fees, stipend, health and accident insurance, travel costs etc. Around 200 foolships will be given annually.

UK & British Commonwealth Government Scholarships – Quota Chain Government started the 7% and the 39% quota chains in 1964 and 1966 respectively. It is also sometimes referred to as the Special Scholarships with the introduction of Gifted Scholarships in July, 1977.

British Chevening Scholarships
Chevening Scholarships are the UK government scholarships available to outstanding academics, with leadership potential and a strong positive impact in the UK and Chevening-eligible countries around the globe. Scholarships are typically for one year Masters courses. Chevening Scholarships cover most fees such as tuition fees, a living allowance (at a set rate per month [one person]), return economy airfare to the UK and other allowances to cover the cost of essential costs. These scholarships are being offered worldwide and there are around 1500 of them.

UK Commonwealth Scholarships-Developing Commonwealth Countries
The Commonwealth Scholarships are offered to applicants with the ambition to pursue Masters and PhD studies in UK and are students of developing Commonwealth nations. Each of the scholarships cover the cost of travel to and from UK, maintenance allowance, tuition and examination fees, personal, thesis (if any), initial allowance for arrival, etc. An average of 300 such scholarships are offered each year.

The Netherlands

Non-EU/EEA Holland Scholarships
The scholarship is the Holland Scholarship funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and is aimed at international students that are out of the European Economic Area (EEA) to get the opportunity to do a Bachelor or Masters study at one of the Dutch research universities and universities of applied science in Holland. The scholarship is for a value of 5000 Euros.

Belgium

Flanders Government Master Mind scholarships International Students 2019.
The Flanders government has come up with a new program of scholarship, Master Mind Scholarships and is intended to go further to internationalize the Flemish Higher Education. It offers scholarships to outstanding Master students regardless of nationality to 45 scholarships. The new arrival gets an award of up to 8,000 euros/year of study. The Host Institution in Flanders is justified to charge the applicant a tuition fee of up to 109 euros/year.

VLIR-UOS Scholarship Scheme
To enable students studying in 31 developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America in a development related English Taught Training or Master Programme to study in Belgium, VLIR UOS provides scholarships. The scholarships cover tuition fee, accommodation, allowance, travel expenses as well as other program related expenses.

Germany

DAAD Development-Relevant Postgraduate courses.
DAAD has scholarships to study in German Universities on a variety of postgraduate courses of special interest to developing countries. The scholarships are particularly targeted to international students and young professionals in developing countries of the following regions of Africa, Asia, Pacific Islands, Central and South America and Central and Eastern Europe. DAAD sponsors the programmes selected with various full or partial scholarships.

Switzerland

Excellence Scholarships of the Swiss Government.
The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are scholarships that provide graduates of some countries (about 180) with an opportunity to conduct doctoral or post doctoral studies in any academic discipline and in any Swiss public funded university and in most cases recognised institution. Scholarship is instituted on monthly allowance, tuition fees, health insurance, lodging allowance etc.

Sweden

Swedish scholarships Global Professionals.
Sweden The Swedish Institute provides scholarships in Sweden to highly qualified international students in the developing world that wishes to pursue full time Masters study in swedish Universities. The scholarship will be covered in terms of tuition fee, cost of living, as well as some travelling grant and insurance. Nearly 335 scholarships are offered.

Denmark

Danish Government Scholarships (non- EU/ EEA).
Danish Ministry of Education is already providing several scholarships annually to also sponsor highly qualified and well motivated non-EU/ EEA international students, who wish to pursue full degree higher education programme in participating Danish Universities. This scholarship can be in the form of full and/or partial waivers of the tuition fees and/or grants to cover your living expenses.

Italy

International Foreign students Scholarships, Italy.
Competitions not only foreign citizen but also Italian citizens living abroad with grants to study in Italy are granted by the Italian Government. The university degree courses, Advanced vocational training, art and music course, Masters Degree course, PhD Courses, etc. are only offered as scholarships lasting three, six or nine months.

France

Eiffel Excellence Scholarships
To facilitate the tools needed to allow the higher education institutions in France to directly recruit the best foreign students to pursue master and PhD programs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs initiated Eiffel scholarship program. Eiffel-scholarship-holders value comprises of the monthly allowances cost and other expenses that might include the cost of return trip, health insurance and cultural activities. It excludes tuition fee.

Australia Awards Scholarships, which was formerly known as Australia Development Scholarships (ADS) are scholarships of international students to international students enrolling Australian Universities and who are under selected countries in Asia, Pacific, Africa and Middle East. The scholarships are to any one of the following: vocational education and training coursework, undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degrees, postgraduate research degrees or a PhD research degree course at a participating Australian university or Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institution. The scholarship conditions are that the scholarship benefit will include all tuition fees, external travelling back to the country of origin, establishment award, contribution of livelihood expenses (CLE), Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), etc.

ARC Scholarships Australia Research Training (RTP)
RTP program also enables both local and international students to pursue a postgraduate research degree in Australia and get to be exposed to the great Australian researchers. Japanese Government Scholarships.
The Japanese Government has offered the Japanese Government Scholarship Program whereby international students have an opportunity to study at the Japanese universities as undergraduate students and research students under a scholarship in Japan. The scholarships will be to cover approximately allowance, travelling costs and school fees.

Taiwan

Higher Education Scholarship Program Taiwan.
TaiwanICDF International Higher Education Scholarship Program has the mission of assisting the partner developing countries to achieve sustainable development through education. TaiwanICDF provides higher level education scholarship opportunities to students and has already developed undergraduates, graduate and Ph.D. programs with the renowned partner universities in Taiwan. The TaiwanICDF provides a complete scholarship to the scholarship recipient which includes air fare back and forth, accommodation, tuition and credit fees, insurance, price of textbooks and monthly allowance.

Turkey

TURKIYE Graduate Scholarship Programme will be aimed at the successful international candidates, who are planning on pursuing postgraduate education in Turkey. Singapore

Singapore International Graduate Award.
Singapore International Graduate Awards are awarded to international students whose undergraduate and /or masters performance is superb, and who have an interest in pursuing a research that would lead to a doctorate (PhD) degree in Science and Engineering in a Singapore University. The award provides 4-year funds to support PhD program which covers full tuition, stipend, settlement and aircraft fare.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong PhD fellowship programme.
Hong Kong PhD fellowship scheme is a government of Hong Kong initiative that since its introduction in 2009 by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) has been dedicated towards attracting the best students globally to undertake their PhD degree programmes in the institutions located in Hong Kong. The stipend of the Fellowship is provided monthly with annual conference and research related travel allowance, not more than three years.
